The Michoacán Secretariat of Public Security arrested 24-year-old Kevin Orlando Bernal Guillén—known by the alias “El Chamukín”—who is alleged to be an operative for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the successor to “El Vikingo” in leading an extortion network in Uruapan. The arrest took place on November 1, and authorities have identified him as one of the primary drivers of violence in the region.

Also taken into custody was 22-year-old Diego García, following an operation by the Civil Guard (Guardia Civil) prompted by a report of extortion at a bar.

How “El Chamukín” was arrested

The arrest occurred in the act at the intersection of Tlaxcala and Ámsterdam streets in Uruapan, as both men were allegedly attempting to extort an establishment. The intervention followed a prior report regarding extortion targeting bars in the area.

According to José Antonio Cruz Medina, the Michoacán Secretary of Public Security, the suspect was identified through reports from the public and by tracking a vehicle that had been spotted in the vicinity of various bars during Civil Guard patrols. The official stated that the suspect was “arrested in Uruapan,” just a few streets away from an establishment known as La Latino.
