Agents from the Federal Ministerial Police (PFM) executed an arrest warrant for Juan Luis Aguilar García, alias “Tofys.” He is the former mayor of Jamay (representing the Movimiento Ciudadano party) and a current public servant with the Jalisco State Government’s Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER); various reports also link him to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

The arrest took place around 10:20 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026, on Libertad Street in the Las Huertas neighborhood of Jamay.

Following his arrest, the former official was transported by federal agents to the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) delegation in Guadalajara to be placed at the disposal of the Federal Public Prosecutor.

According to the National Registry of Detentions (RND), the official record confirms the arrest carried out by the federal agency; however, the official report has not yet detailed the specific crimes or the criminal case underlying the judicial warrant.

Local records indicate that Aguilar García previously faced scrutiny regarding alleged irregularities in the handling of financial aid intended for the agricultural sector; however, authorities have not determined whether the federal investigation is related to those past issues.

Juan Luis Aguilar García has a continuous political career in Jalisco’s 15th district; he served as mayor of Jamay for two consecutive terms between 2015 and 2021.

Subsequently, he held a seat as a deputy in the Jalisco State Congress during the LXIII Legislature (2021–2024) before joining the state administration within the Rural Financing division of SADER Jalisco. It is expected that, in the coming hours, the FGR will formalize the charges and determine the individual’s legal status before a federal control judge.
