The discovery of the body of Joselyn Sandoval Calderón—a 21-year-old student at the UAEM Valle de Teotihuacán University Center—beside the Mexico-Tulancingo highway in the municipality of Axapusco confirmed her homicide on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, two days after her disappearance in the Teotihuacán region was reported.
According to records from the State of Mexico Attorney General’s Office (FGJEM) and reports from local authorities, the university student was last seen on Monday, September 21, in the municipality of Otumba, after helping her family run a fruit and vegetable stall in Teotihuacán. Her disappearance prompted her family and the student community of the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEMéx) to issue missing person alerts.
On Wednesday morning, emergency personnel and security officers located the student’s body by the side of the road in Axapusco. Although initial forensic reports indicate injuries likely caused by a bladed weapon, the precise cause of death remains subject to the forensic findings to be issued by the authorities.
The discovery of the student follows the homicide of her boyfriend, Juan Carlos Ortiz Bravo—a law graduate from the same university—whose body was found on Tuesday, September 22, inside a Chevrolet Aveo in downtown Otumba.
