Dozens of Sinaloans took to the streets of Culiacán to march with the aim of demanding peace and security two years after the start of the dispute between the factions of Los Chapitos and Los Mayos of the Sinaloa Cartel that has caused more than 3 thousand murders and approximately 6 thousand disappearances.
The day brought together families, young people, search groups and representatives of different sectors of Sinaloa society, who met at 7:00 a.m. (local time) to attend a mass and later begin the mobilization through the streets of the capital dressed in white.
One of the central speeches was given by Martha Elena Reyes Zazueta, president of Coparmex Sinaloa, who asked to speak as another citizen to ask Sinaloans not to get used to violence.
“Today we remember, but not to feed hatred. We remember to heal, to learn, to not repeat. And also to say that with all clarity we have already suffered too much. I too, like you, am afraid, but I am more afraid to think that our children can come to believe that this is normal.
I’m afraid that one day they will ask me: ‘And what did you do?’ And I won’t have anything to answer them. That is why we are here today and that is why you are also here (…) We are marching for life, for our children, our families, for those who are no longer here, for those who are still waiting to return home,” he assured.
