The arrest of Juan Pérez—known as “El Mantecas”—the mayor of San Juan Tianguismanalco, Puebla, was recently announced following the execution of an arrest warrant.

According to the National Detention Registry (RND), Juan Pérez was arrested by Ministerial Police officers at the Casa Carmen Serdán in Atlixco, located in the Buena Vista neighborhood.

The mayor was accompanied by his children at the time of his arrest; they remained in the care of authorities until family members arrived to collect them.

While the RND document confirms Juan Pérez’s detention, it does not specify the crime or crimes for which the arrest warrant was issued.

For its part, the Puebla State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) has not yet issued an official statement regarding the charges brought against the mayor.

In November 2025, Juan Pérez was hospitalized after sustaining a stab wound to the neck. The incident occurred when a man intercepted the mayor while he was in the municipal seat of Tianguismanalco with some of his council members.

The assailant approached him, confronting him over personal matters. Moments later, he drew a weapon and inflicted the wound on the mayor.
