Tomás Zerón de Lucio, former head of the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC), interrogated drug trafficker Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera—the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel—after his arrest in February 2014.

A previously unpublished photograph obtained by *EL UNIVERSAL* shows Tomás Zerón de Lucio alongside the criminal leader. The image captures the moment before Guzmán was transferred from Mexico City International Airport to a helicopter belonging to the then-Federal Police (PF) for transport to the Federal Social Readaptation Center No. 1 (El Altiplano)—a facility under heavy security by air and ground.

In the image, Zerón de Lucio—wearing a green jacket—is seen leaning against the wall in a threatening manner while interrogating “El Chapo,” who keeps his gaze lowered as he answers the police chief’s questions.

On Monday, journalist Héctor de Mauleón, a columnist for *El Gran Diario de México*, revealed three previously unseen videos from the final capture of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera on January 8, 2016, in Los Mochis, Sinaloa.

In the recordings made at the Hotel Doux—which capture part of the interrogation—El Chapo states that while he was involved in drug trafficking, he had never stolen anything. The kingpin is also seen washing mud from his face—accumulated during his escape attempt—and asserts that it was not in his interest to fight the Mexican government.

“It is not in my interest for people to fight the government. I have made it very clear to them—I’ve told them: this has an end. If I fail one day, I don’t want you fighting any police officers—not at all. No, there will be no war—none whatsoever. I am certain of that; there won’t be any,” the former criminal leader—who is currently serving a life sentence in a U.S. prison—is heard saying.

In another of the previously unseen videos, while inside the vehicle taking him to the hangar for transport to Mexico City, El Chapo appears dejected with his eyes closed; when specifically asked, he confirms that the military personnel who detained him had not beaten or mistreated him.
