An attack involving a car bomb left one state police officer dead and two others injured in the municipality of Luis Moya, Zacatecas, near the border with Aguascalientes.
Among the injured is the director of the force, who had been assigned to the municipal police.
The ambush took place on Friday night while officers were patrolling in an official vehicle along a dirt road connecting the communities of Julián Adame and Barranquilla. According to security sources, the attackers remotely detonated an explosive charge placed in a car as the patrol vehicle passed by, subsequently fleeing the scene.
Personnel from the Mexican Army, the National Guard, and the State Police deployed to the border area to assist the officers and launch a search operation.
Following the incident, Zacatecas’ Secretary General of Government, Rodrigo Reyes Mugüerza, confirmed the casualties and expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased officer, assuring that agencies from all three levels of government would intensify efforts to locate those responsible and advance the pacification of the state.
