SRE Confirms Death of Another Mexican National in ICE Custody; Total Deaths Reach 15 in 2026

The Secretariat of Foreign Affairs (SRE) has reported the death of a Mexican national while in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the United States.

The death occurred on April 11 at the Winn Correctional Center, located in the state of Louisiana.

According to information provided by U.S. authorities, the national was found unresponsive in his cell and was subsequently transported to a hospital, where his death was confirmed.

As of now, the cause of death remains under investigation; consequently, the specific circumstances surrounding the incident have not yet been determined.

Upon receiving notification, the Consulate of Mexico in New Orleans immediately activated its consular protection protocols.

In coordination with the Consulate General of Mexico in Atlanta, contact was established with the deceased’s family members to provide legal assistance, guidance, and support throughout the process.
