The appointment of Lorena Marisol Rodríguez Rivera as interim mayor of Tequila, Jalisco, following the arrest of Diego Rivera Navarro, has reignited a series of controversies surrounding her.
After the extraordinary session of the City Council that appointed her as the new mayor of Tequila on February 8, with six votes in favor, three against, and one abstention, a video began circulating again on social media showing Rodríguez Rivera participating in a private celebration where a narcocorrido (drug ballad) by the group Los Alegres del Barranco was performed.
The video, originally released in 2015, shows her singing the song “El del Palenque,” a song that refers to the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias El Mencho.
