Once again, Shakira will sing the official anthem of the World Cup. The track “Dai Dai”—performed by the Colombian artist alongside Nigerian singer Burna Boy—has been selected by FIFA as the official song for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place from June 11 to July 19 across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The artist, together with FIFA, announced the news this Thursday in a short video posted on her social media channels, in which she previews snippets of the song, set to be released on May 14.
In the video—filmed at the iconic Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro—Shakira appears dressed in a yellow jersey and blue shorts, resembling the Brazilian national team’s kit, surrounded by several soccer balls and a group of dancers as she sings excerpts from “Dai Dai.” The singer steps onto the Maracanã pitch carrying a “Trionda”—the official match ball for the upcoming World Cup—places it on the ground as if to kick off a play, and then launches into the “Dai Dai” choreography alongside her dancers, who are dressed in the colors of national teams such as Colombia, Argentina, and the United States.
“Oe, oe, oe,” the song begins, featuring an upbeat Caribbean rhythm and English lyrics that emphasize the sense of belonging to a World Cup that belongs to everyone. The visual setting is completed by four soccer balls: those from the World Cups held in Germany (2006), South Africa (2010), and Brazil (2014), plus the “Trionda” from the 2026 North American tournament.
Shakira’s “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” served as the official anthem for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa—a tournament ultimately won by the Spanish national team. Four years later, the Colombian artist returned with the track “La La La” for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Meanwhile, her hit song “Hips Don’t Lie” had already caused a sensation back in 2006 during the tournament in Germany. The video, one minute and seven seconds long, ends with the phrase “We Are Ready.”
