Photographer and content creator Ricardo Zúñiga Rosas was murdered on the night of Saturday, August 29, in Tehuitzingo, Puebla, after reporting threats he had received following his criticism of the municipal government.
According to preliminary reports, the attack took place inside his cleaning supply business; two armed men burst in and shot him at close range before fleeing on a motorcycle.
Zúñiga, 35, was rushed to the hospital while still alive by family members and neighbors, but doctors confirmed his death shortly after his arrival. The case remains under investigation; according to reports, no arrests have been made, and authorities have not confirmed a motive.
In the weeks leading up to the attack, Ricardo had publicly disclosed threats he received due to his criticism of the local government’s actions. On social media, he had warned of the danger he faced if he continued his posts.
Zúñiga recounted receiving calls demanding that he stop addressing topics such as the municipal landfill, the management of funds, and public works projects.
The warnings also included demands that he not get involved in political matters in Tehuitzingo.
The content creator left a written record regarding his situation: “If something happens to me, you already know about the threats I have reported.”
The threats were made public during May and June—months prior to the attack.
Authorities have not confirmed whether there is a direct link between the prior threats and the homicide.
