More than 800 kilograms of cocaine were seized off the coast of Guerrero during an operation that also resulted in the arrest of five individuals, Mexico’s Security Cabinet reported.
According to the official report, authorities intercepted a vessel transporting the drug shipment in national waters. During the intervention, the five crew members were arrested and placed at the disposal of the appropriate authorities for further investigation.
The Security Cabinet noted that the seizure deals a blow to the operational and financial capabilities of drug trafficking organizations, while also preventing the shipment from reaching illegal distribution channels.
Official estimates indicate that the confiscated drugs represent approximately 1.6 million doses that will not reach the illicit market.
The operation was carried out through the coordinated efforts of personnel from the Secretariat of the Navy, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, and the Attorney General’s Office, as part of surveillance and anti-drug trafficking actions in national waters.
