The Mexican Navy arrested a U.S. citizen in Mazatlán who was wanted by Michigan authorities for possession of controlled substances. The operation, coordinated among three federal agencies, culminated in the man being handed over to U.S. justice authorities.
The Secretariat of the Navy—acting through the Mexican Navy and the Fourth Naval Region—reported the recent arrest of Janeiro “N,” a U.S. national who appeared on the state of Michigan’s list of the ten most wanted fugitives. An active arrest warrant had been issued against him by a court in that state for his alleged involvement in the crime of possession of controlled substances.
The arrest resulted from coordinated efforts involving the Secretariat of the Navy, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), and the National Migration Institute (INM). The three institutions gathered, analyzed, and exchanged intelligence that enabled them to locate the fugitive in the port city in Sinaloa.
The Navy described the operation as the outcome of “inter-agency coordination, investigation, and intelligence work” carried out jointly by the participating agencies.
