President Claudia Sheinbaum dismissed the notion that Mexico feels pressured by the United States government, following her request for clarifications regarding the 2024 arrest of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada.
During the morning press conference on July 7, the Mexican government provided a detailed report on the case’s timeline and the information request submitted to the United States after it was revealed that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had claimed credit for the arrest.
“Mexico does not feel pressured by the United States. The United States may exert pressure on us. The issue is how we respond. And we respond with dignity, because we represent the people of Mexico—a people with dignity,” the president asserted, denying the existence of effective pressure from the United States on Mexico.
