The Mexican national team is one step away from achieving something it has never accomplished in the entire history of the World Cup: winning all three of its group stage matches.
After defeating South Africa and South Korea in their opening matches of the 2026 World Cup, the team led by Javier Aguirre heads into the game against the Czech Republic with the chance to achieve a perfect record and shake off a historic burden that has dogged *El Tri* for decades.
Mexico began its World Cup campaign with a 2–0 victory over South Africa in the opening match held at Mexico City Stadium. The national squad displayed discipline, intensity, and clinical finishing to secure their first three points and take the lead in Group A right from matchday one.
In their second outing, the Mexican team managed a narrow 1–0 victory over South Korea in a tight contest; afterwards, “Vasco” Aguirre remarked, “It’s a match to forget, but a result to remember.”
With six points, *El Tri* has all but secured its place in the Round of 32 and is now setting its sights on an even greater goal.
Javier Aguirre noted that the second victory came in a very scrappy match where the team that made a mistake would lose: “We didn’t give an inch, fighting for every ball as if it were the last; it’s true that we had the clearest chances [to score],” highlighted “Vasco.”
