The Mexican content creator Samuel Adrián was arrested on Sunday, September 13, at the El Dorado international airport, in Bogotá, following an arrest warrant for contempt issued by a court in Cali. According to the information released by the Colombian National Police, the procedure does not correspond to a criminal investigation, but to the fulfillment of a judicial sanction.
Adrián, director of the documentary Colombia: factory of trans children, arrived in the Colombian capital even though he had publicly anticipated that he could be deprived of his freedom. Before the trip, he published a video from the Tocumen airport, in Panama, in which he stated that a judicial notification ordered his arrest for 10 days and the payment of a fine equivalent to 15 minimum monthly salaries in Colombia.
The case originated from an incident of contempt related to content published by Adrián on his YouTube channel. The documentary addresses medical treatments and protocols linked to gender transition in children and adolescents in Colombia, a topic that sparked debates among political sectors, Lgbtiq+ rights organizations, health specialists and groups with critical positions towards these procedures.
