The security crisis in the Central and Mountain regions of Guerrero reached a new critical point this Monday with the discovery of 10 executed individuals across two separate incidents. This resurgence of violence is part of a pattern of attacks against innocent civilians by the criminal group “Los Ardillos,” which has triggered the forced displacement of more than a thousand people in the area. *Narco-Trafficking News*
Around 5:00 a.m., authorities located the bodies of four men on the shoulder of the Chilpancingo-Tlapa federal highway, near the Papaxtla junction in the municipality of Chilapa. According to security reports, the victims were bound and bore evident signs of torture. It was reported that the deceased were members of groups that have attempted to stem the advance of Los Ardillos while local families flee their communities.
Hours later, around 9:00 a.m., a second violent discovery was reported in the Mountain region. On a dirt road leading to the community of Lomas de Cocoyoc, in the municipality of Olinalá, sacks containing the dismembered remains of six men were abandoned.
Personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) responded to both sites to conduct the necessary investigative procedures. The bodies found in Chilapa were transported to the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO) in Chilpancingo, while the remains found in Olinalá remain at the facilities in Tlapa; in both cases, the victims remain unidentified.
These acts of violence are unfolding against a backdrop of extreme tension for the inhabitants of the Lower Mountain region. Currently, nearly 1,300 people originally from Xicotlán, Tula, and Acahuehuetlán remain sheltered in the community of Alcozacán—headquarters of the Indigenous and Popular Council of Guerrero–Emiliano Zapata (CIPOG-EZ)—having fled their homes in the face of constant attacks involving firearms and explosive drones.
Despite the magnitude of the humanitarian crisis and the multiple homicides recorded over the past 24 hours, Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda has issued no official statement, nor has she outlined any actions to halt the forced displacement or guarantee security in the areas besieged by “Los Ardillos.”
