The adaptation of this dark humor novel by the Mexican novelist has captivated audiences not only in our country, but also within the local Top 10 in more than 42 countries, including Bangladesh, Cyprus, Italy, Jordan, Belgium, Pakistan, Lebanon, and Ukraine.

Global users have chosen to watch the outstanding performances of Arcelia Ramírez and Paulina Gaitán in their original language—under the punctual direction of filmmaker Luis Estrada—with subtitles in 31 languages.

But the success of Las muertas on the platform, in addition to the story, has also been that it is dubbed in 12 languages, a process that involved more than 500 artists and dubbing technicians “around the world,” including actors, directors, translators, adapters, and audio technicians, according to Netflix.

Existing translations of the novel—including dubbing and subtitling—were reviewed to see how they would adapt to local versions.

The most complex aspect was adapting the use of regionalisms, idioms, and Mexican slang specific to the era (1960s).

Audio description (AD) was also produced for the blind or visually impaired community, which is a descriptive narration of images when there is no dialogue.
