Wendy Fabiola ‘N’, alias “La Tía” (The Aunt), 35, was arrested for her alleged involvement in the murder of Carlos Manzo, former mayor of Uruapan, which occurred more than six months ago.
The arrest took place on May 12 in the municipality of Uruapan, as a result of an operation by state forces in coordination with federal agents, the Michoacán State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reported.
According to Attorney General Carlos Torres Piña, “La Tía” was an operative for Gerardo ‘N’, alias “El Congo,” one of the high-ranking members of the cell that planned and carried out the attack against the independent mayor.
Her role was allegedly to leak information about federal and state operations to the group led by Jorge Armando ‘N’, alias “El Licenciado,” who is currently incarcerated at the El Altiplano prison.
“She was the one who provided different information to this individual (El Congo). Once he was arrested, this person began coordinating with other members of the same criminal group, who, in addition to drug dealing and other activities within this criminal structure, have led us to expand this investigation,” he said.
At the time of her arrest, Wendy Fabiola ‘N’ was found in possession of a cell phone and doses of marijuana and methamphetamine.
After the initial hearing, a judge ordered her to stand trial on May 16 for crimes against public health and possession of ammunition; he also set a two-month period for further investigation.
With La Tía’s arrest, the number of people detained for their direct or indirect involvement in the murder of Manzo Rodríguez has reached 22, with at least three arrest warrants still outstanding, according to Torres Piña.
Following the operations, the cell affiliated with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel “has been dismantled,” the prosecutor added.
