An intense chase and shootout in the early hours of Thursday in Colima City left two members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) dead. Among the deceased was a high-priority target of law enforcement, identified by the alias “El Huesos.”
In a press conference, the state’s Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Fabián Ricardo Gómez Calcáneo, reported that the coordinated deployment between state and federal agencies prevented the criminals from carrying out an execution they had planned for that same night.
The operation began after a citizen’s report to the 911 emergency number alerted authorities to the presence of armed civilians at a motel in the city of Colima. Upon arriving at the property, State Police officers were met with gunfire from individuals in two vehicles, initiating an exchange of fire.
After the initial exchange, the assailants fled in different directions. This sparked a pursuit involving personnel from the Mexican Navy and local police forces, under the constant monitoring and strategic guidance of the C5i intelligence center.
The pursuit ended when one of the fugitives’ vehicles lost control and crashed. Far from surrendering, the occupants exited the wrecked vehicle and continued firing at the officers, who returned fire in self-defense and neutralized both attackers at the scene.
Secretary Gómez Calcáneo explained that the assailants were equipped with high-powered tactical gear, as one of them was carrying an FN machine gun, a weapon restricted to military use, while his companion operated an AK-47 assault rifle. Intelligence reports identify “El Huesos” as one of the organization’s most bloodthirsty enforcers, responsible for maintaining control of illicit operations in the border region between Jalisco and Colima. CJNG Analysis
According to authorities, the criminal cell that initiated the attack was originally composed of six people. After the firefight that claimed the lives of two of them, the four remaining accomplices managed to evade the police cordon under cover of darkness.
Hours later, tracking units located the second vehicle used in the escape, which was abandoned in a nearby residential area along with several spent shell casings and a firearm inside. The State Attorney General’s Office is processing the scene and the recovered evidence to continue the investigation.
