Dairon Daniel Sánchez Zárate, 20 years old and alias “El Lápiz”, left the Doctor Rubén Leñero General Hospital with two bullets in his legs and without having completed his recovery. The Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City arrested him on August 24, 2026 in the streets of the Cuauhtémoc mayor’s office, along with two companions who had taken him from the hospital, in possession of approximately one kilogram of marijuana and a short firearm.
The operation that led to the capture began as a preventive patrol in the Casco de Santo Tomás neighborhood, Miguel Hidalgo mayor’s office. The police detected a wine-colored car parked with the windows open, from which a characteristic smell of marijuana emanated.
It all began in the early hours of Saturday, August 22, when alleged members of La Unión Tepito set a trap for “El Lápiz.” According to journalist Carlos Jiménez, from the C4 en Alerta program, a woman identified as Nailea González contacted him and invited him to consume alcoholic beverages.
The couple boarded a vehicle together, but Gonzalez left the unit shortly after, leaving Dairon Daniel locked inside. Moments later, members of La Unión Tepito arrived at the scene, beat him and shot him at least twice in the legs.
“El Lápiz” managed to repel the attack and escape from the scene. He was transferred to the Doctor Rubén Leñero General Hospital, in the Santo Tomás neighborhood, Miguel Hidalgo mayor’s office, where he received medical attention for the gunshot wounds.
