The former mayor of Sombrerete, Ignacio “Nacho” Castrejón Valdéz, was found dead this Saturday morning alongside Federal Highway 45, just hours after being abducted by a squad of hitmen. The discovery mobilized security forces along the border between the municipalities of Saín Alto and Sombrerete.
Castrejón Valdéz, who was also a construction entrepreneur, governed the municipality of Sombrerete from 2016 to 2018, representing a coalition formed by the National Action Party (PAN) and the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD).
According to sources linked to the National Action Party, the former mayor had been violently abducted from his home by unknown individuals in the hours prior.
Following the report of his disappearance, authorities launched a search operation that ended tragically when motorists reported seeing a body on the side of the highway connecting Saín Alto and Sombrerete. Upon arriving at the scene, police officers confirmed the following details:
The victim’s body was completely naked.
It bore gunshot wounds and visible signs of extreme torture.
Several spent shell casings were found and secured in the immediate vicinity, suggesting the site was used for the execution.
Once the death was confirmed, the response protocol for high-impact crimes was immediately activated. Investigative Police (PDI) officers proceeded to cordon off and secure the area to preserve evidence. Meanwhile, personnel from the General Directorate of Forensic Services (DGSP) were responsible for documenting the scene and collecting ballistic evidence, while the remains of the politician and businessman were transported to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) facilities for an autopsy and the incorporation of findings into the investigation file opened for the crime of aggravated homicide.
