The arrest of William Ariel Rangel Martínez, originally from Aguascalientes and for whom there was an active search file promoted by his mother—who publicly presented him as an innocent victim of disappearance—triggered a violent reaction by a cell of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in Zacatecas territory, leading to the bomb attack against the Municipal Police Command of Ojocaliente, Zacatecas.
Despite the visibility campaigns supported by his mother to classify his absence as unjustified victimization, security investigations confirmed his membership in the criminal group.
The subject was detained during an operational deployment in the border area between Aguascalientes and Zacatecas.
After his arrest, and after a previous event in the municipality of Villa García where he placed a motorcycle with a bomb that detonated and left a civilian and a police officer injured, members of the CJNG carried out the terrorist attack against the police facilities in Ojocaliente.
The bomb attack mobilized corporations from the three levels of government, which reinforced the institutional presence and intensified coordinated operations within the limits of both entities to contain the escalation of violence in the region.
Investigations continue by the corresponding authorities to determine the legal situation of the detainee, clarify the inconsistencies between the family complaint and his role in organized crime, as well as determine responsibilities for the registered attacks.
