In a dystopian reality where criminals are the authority and the authority is criminal, where is hope? Part of the civilian population in Mexico has sought answers to their woes from the very criminal organizations that have plunged entire communities into an endless spiral of violence, even overwhelming the capacity of the authorities not only to stop them but also to guarantee access to justice.
While there are cases where law enforcement has prevailed against criminal control, there are also territories where the influence and power that criminal groups have accumulated has led them to be seen by civil society as mediators or vigilantes.
This situation has been exposed in recent years through social media posts and public requests for help that, instead of being directed to a government agency or public officials, are addressed to criminal leaders.
