On May 21, the Mexican Army located a narco-camp near Escuinapa, Sinaloa, following an attack on National Guard personnel along the Tepic-Mazatlán highway.
After the attack, an inter-agency task force launched an operation to search for the suspected perpetrators and discovered the clandestine camp while patrolling the area.
Among the tactical gear seized at the site was a vest bearing the initials GDGP; these are believed to refer to “El Güero Pin,” who has been unofficially identified as the local leader for the “Los Chapitos” faction in that municipality.
The attack took place near kilometer marker 181 of the Mazatlán-Tepic highway, in the vicinity of Escuinapa. National Guard personnel stationed at an operations base at the location repelled the attack.
