El Trébol arrest in Querétaro

Mexican authorities arrest Erick “El Trébol” near Querétaro International Airport on a U.S. extradition warrant over alleged drug trafficking and criminal association.

Mexican federal authorities arrested Erick “N,” known as “El Trébol,” in an operation near Querétaro International Airport on October 16, executing an arrest warrant for extradition proceedings requested by the United States. The operation involved the Federal Attorney General’s Office (FGR), acting through its Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) and Interpol Mexico, in coordination with the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC). After his arrest, the suspect was placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which was to determine his legal situation.

According to Mexico’s Security Cabinet, the arrest followed an exchange of information with U.S. agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Authorities said they identified the city of Querétaro as an area where the suspect moved in connection with alleged drug trafficking between Mexico and the United States. Federal agents then conducted fixed and mobile surveillance and identified vehicles he reportedly used. Using that information, they mounted an operation in the vicinity of the airport, located the suspect and executed the arrest warrant. The published accounts do not specify how long the surveillance lasted or identify the vehicles.

U.S. authorities are seeking the suspect through the Federal District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Mexican officials identified the alleged offenses as criminal association and drug-related offenses, described in Mexican legal terminology as asociación delictuosa and delitos contra la salud. The government characterized him as a member of a transnational criminal cell allegedly moving cocaine and methamphetamine from Mexico into Texas. The reporting reviewed does not provide the underlying U.S. indictment, specific shipment quantities, dates of alleged trafficking, or further evidence detailing his alleged role in the operation.
