The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) denied that Alfonso Durazo, Governor of Sonora, and Américo Villarreal, Governor of Tamaulipas, hold a “special permit” to enter and exit the country. This was reported by the newspaper *La Opinión*, which published a response to an information request it had submitted to the agency confirming the denial.
The request was made after reports circulated that both governors had had their visas revoked due to alleged investigations against them:
“Francisco Alfonso Durazo Montaño and Américo Villarreal Anaya have not been [granted such a permit].”
The DHS permit—also known as “parole”—is a discretionary authorization allowing foreign nationals to enter or remain temporarily in the United States without a visa, based on the premise that their stay benefits the government, serves the public interest, or aids national security.
