Ceci Flores, leader of the Collective of Searching Mothers of Sonora (*Colectivo de Madres Buscadoras de Sonora*), sent a letter to Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán requesting information regarding individuals disappeared by the Sinaloa Cartel, with the aim of enabling their families to locate them.
The sending of this missive comes after the searcher began the search for her second son, Alejandro Guadalupe Islas Flores—who disappeared in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, in October 2015—and follows the recent publication of a letter sent by the former cartel leader himself to U.S. authorities, in which he requested fair treatment in prison.
According to Ceci Flores, her son was taken by individuals working for the Sinaloa Cartel—specifically for “El Chapo”—whom she identified as “El Chava,” “El Chato,” and “El Mudo,” along with at least 10 other people.
“Upon seeing on social media the letter that El Chapo sent to authorities, demanding his right to a more dignified life in his current place of confinement, I have taken the liberty of sending him a letter to ask—on behalf of my son Alejandro—that he show solidarity, empathy, and sensitivity toward the mothers who, every day, fight tirelessly to bring our children back home,” the searching mother said in a video.
