Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez stole the spotlight before the opening ceremony of the 2026 World Cup at Mexico City Stadium.

The renowned Mexican fighter attended the Mexico vs. South Africa match and was asked various questions, many of them in a friendly manner.

Canelo responded with laughter when asked which player “could last a round against him” in the ring. The first player who came to mind, due to his strength, was the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo.

“That’s a tough one… I honestly don’t know. I think Cristiano (Ronaldo) has the strength,” he told DAZN.

However, he also remembered the Swedish Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Although he couldn’t recall his last name, he did mention him because of his fame as a martial artist.

“Or what’s this player’s name again? Ibrahimovic, Ibra… he’s kind of into martial arts or something, but we’ll stick with Cristiano Ronaldo,” the Mexican fighter added.
Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez will return to the ring on September 12 to face Frenchman Christian Mbilli in Saudi Arabia.

The European is the current WBC super middleweight world champion.
