“El Pollero,” member of “Los Tanzanios,” captured in Iztapalapa with drugs and a submachine gun

Mexico City authorities arrested “El Pollero”—an alleged member of the criminal cell “Los Tanzanios”—after executing a search warrant at a property in the Iztapalapa borough. During the operation, they seized a submachine gun, ammunition, and doses of a substance resembling methamphetamine.

The operation was led by the Mexico City Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) in coordination with the local Attorney General’s Office (FGJ), with support from the Mexican Navy (SEMAR) and the National Guard (GN). The intervention took place on Batalla de Castillo Street in the Álvaro Obregón neighborhood; it was conducted without violence and in compliance with police operational protocols.

The detainee, known by the alias “El Pollero,” is 36 years old and is identified as a member of Los Tanzanios, a criminal cell active in Iztapalapa that engages in drug dealing and the extortion of local merchants and shopkeepers.
