On Monday, July 13, former Pemex director Víctor Rodríguez Padilla received a pardon from his wife, María Felicia Jiménez Lavié, after being accused of vicarious violence and family violence.

Infobae México was able to unofficially confirm that the former Pemex director faced proceedings for the crime of family violence; the victim did not appear before the judge to ratify the complaint against her husband but instead sent a letter granting the former official a pardon. The magistrate took this factor into account and decided not to bind him over for trial on charges of vicarious violence, meaning the case is proceeding solely on the charge of family violence.

As of this writing, the hearing is addressing the precautionary measures to which Rodríguez Padilla will be subject.

State judge Consuelo Adriana Correa Ortiz is presiding over the case; she had previously ordered the former Pemex director held in pretrial detention on July 8. Correa Ortiz presented a document—filed on July 10—in which María Felicia Jiménez expressed her desire to grant a pardon and halt the criminal proceedings against Víctor Rodríguez Padilla. The judge clarified that, although Jiménez has granted a pardon, the crimes of vicarious violence and family violence are subject to mandatory prosecution by the state (*ex officio*).
