A preliminary death toll of 11 people resulted from a clash between armed civilians and federal forces in the towns of Agua Verde and Chametla, in the municipality of Rosario, southern Sinaloa.
According to security sources, the incident occurred during patrols conducted by personnel from the Mexican Army and the Navy in the community of Agua Verde, where they were allegedly attacked by a group of armed men operating in the area.
Initial reports indicate that upon detecting the presence of federal forces, the civilians opened fire on the officers, triggering an intense shootout that extended between Agua Verde and Cajón Ojo de Agua 2, also known as “El Cerro.”
Federal forces returned fire, and a large-scale ground and air operation was deployed to locate those responsible, who attempted to flee after the exchange of gunfire.
Residents of the region reported the presence of armed forces helicopters flying at low altitude over the communities of Chametla, Agua Verde and nearby mountain areas, while military convoys reinforced surveillance on the ground.
