Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán has once again submitted a letter to U.S. authorities, claiming he is being treated unfairly in the country; consequently, he addressed Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum directly.
The letter, bearing a June 23rd stamp, was shared on social media by journalist Arturo Ángel.
“Claudia Sheinbaum has a secure place for my imprisonment where my health needs are attended to, given that the United States is treating me unfairly at the correctional facility,” reads part of the document.
The letter argues that the man who once led the Sinaloa Cartel has not violated foreign policy norms. With this latest text, El Chapo is once again seeking to leave the U.S. prison system and be handed over to Mexican authorities.
“Federal courts have the authority, under Judicial Policies, to accept Mr. Guzmán’s request—in accordance with U.S. foreign policy norms—to ensure fair treatment,” the letter continues.
In the text, El Chapo asserts that he is being treated unfairly on U.S. soil and claims this violates the country’s laws.
The receipt document bears a stamp from the Brooklyn office dated June 23; furthermore, the letter is signed “Joaquín El Chapo Loera Guzmán”—meaning the drug lord’s surnames are interspersed.
