A massive brawl involving three tourists from Mexico City caused panic along the waterfront in Cozumel, Quintana Roo. The altercation left two people injured—one of whom was knocked unconscious—and resulted in two arrests and the immediate closure of the restaurant where the conflict began.

According to preliminary accounts, the incident started around 6:00 PM on Sunday at an establishment in the island’s main tourist district.

Two intoxicated men and a woman began arguing with the staff, acting aggressively toward a waitress and other workers. Tensions escalated quickly when the tourists started picking fights with other diners and local residents.

As the situation spiraled out of control, Municipal Police officers intervened; however, the vacationers assaulted and insulted the officers, threatened witnesses who were recording them on their cellphones, and claimed to belong to a cartel. The conflict turned into a general brawl when one of the tourists attacked a local taxi driver, sparking a group fight in the street in full view of dozens of pedestrians.

Videos circulated on social media captured the moment one of the aggressors fell unconscious to the ground after suffering a heavy blow to the head. Emergency services transported two men to local hospitals for medical attention; the latest reports indicate that both are stable and under observation. The other two tourists involved were arrested and taken to the Municipal Detention Center.

As a result of the brawl, the Cozumel municipal government ordered the temporary closure of the restaurant. The measure sparked mixed reactions among residents; some insist on determining whether the business bore direct responsibility before final sanctions are imposed, while municipal authorities maintain that the closure aims to facilitate the investigation and ensure safety in the Mexican Caribbean.
