The mayor of Mazatlán, Estrella Palacios Domínguez, rejected the allegations that arose over the weekend following the circulation of a photograph in which she appears alongside a woman who, according to journalist Juan Manuel Partida Valdez, is the sister of drug trafficker Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera, who is serving a life sentence in the United States.

The controversy began after the Mazatlán-based journalist published the image and stated that it was part of an alleged investigation file related to the mayor. According to Partida Valdez, the information was provided by agents of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) operating in Mazatlán.

However, to date, no official documents or investigations have been publicly presented to support these claims.

When questioned by the media last Monday, Palacios Domínguez denied knowing the woman who appears next to her in the photograph and asserted that the image was part of a common practice during her election campaign.

“I don’t know that person. During the campaign, I took photos with many people, and I would like to write a letter explaining my position on the matter. It’s completely out of the question,” the mayor declared.
