Mirna Leticia Morales González and her daughter, Estefanía González Parra, left their home in the Bagojo Colectivo *ejido* to buy the outfits they would wear for their Mother’s Day celebration. Hours later, both were found dead inside Plaza Fiesta Las Palmas, the shopping mall that caught fire on the afternoon of Thursday, May 7, in Los Mochis, Sinaloa.
With them was José Jesús Heredia González—Mirna’s husband and Estefanía’s father—who managed to escape through the smoke and flames, sustaining burns to his arms, neck, and back. As he received treatment from paramedics outside the mall, he pleaded for help to find them.
For hours, family members waited for news amidst the ambulances, smoke, and lists of people being transported to hospitals. Finally, firefighters located the bodies of the mother and daughter inside the building. “Their passing leaves an immense void in the hearts of those who loved them. They will live forever in our memories and in our hearts,” family members wrote on social media.
As of the publication of this article, the tragedy has officially left five people dead and 38 hospitalized; however, local media outlets such as *Debate* and *Los Noticieristas* are already reporting a sixth fatality—a death that the Sinaloa State Attorney General’s Office has not yet confirmed through its official channels.
According to reports, the fire broke out around 1:30 p.m., allegedly originating in the kitchen area of the Ley department store located inside the mall. The complex is situated on Álvaro Obregón Boulevard, between Río Fuerte and Antonio Rosales streets, in the *Colonia Centro* district of Los Mochis.
The flames spread rapidly to clothing stores, toy shops, and other businesses, while smoke engulfed the hallways, triggering scenes of desperation among customers and employees. The structural collapse of certain sections of the building further complicated rescue operations.
