President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo asserted that no foreign power will tell Mexicans how to govern themselves, for we are a people who cherish freedom and sovereignty—and who are prepared to defend them. She warned that “those who think the President will kneel are destined for defeat.”
This statement comes amidst diplomatic tensions with the United States government, following its request for the arrest and extradition of the now-former Governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, and nine state officials, over alleged ties to drug trafficking.
While presiding over the ceremony marking the 164th anniversary of the Battle of Puebla, the Chief Executive also warned that those who seek external support—due to a lack of popular backing within our own country—are destined for defeat; as are those who seek to vindicate Hernán Cortés and his atrocities.

“Those who seek external support because they lack popular support within our country are destined for defeat; to those who look to the Conquest as a form of salvation, we say: you are destined for defeat; to those who believe the people are foolish, you are destined for defeat. Those who seek to vindicate Hernán Cortés and his atrocities are destined for defeat—destined for defeat; to those who harbor hatred, a moral defeat awaits you; and to those who think the President will kneel, you are destined for defeat.”
