In a joint operation, federal and state forces successfully apprehended Lorenzo—known as “El Chuky” or “Curro”—who has been identified as the *plaza boss* (regional leader) for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in the municipality of Manzanillo, Colima.
This arrest represents a strategic blow to the organization’s operational structure within the state, particularly in the port area—a critical hub for its illicit activities.
The intervention was the result of close coordination between the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR)—acting through its Naval Intelligence and Special Operations Unit—the federal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), and the Colima State Police.
Thanks to prior intelligence work—both desk-based analysis and field operations—authorities were able to track the target in real time. This allowed them to devise a deployment strategy that combined ground-based pursuit with aerial surveillance using drones to prevent any potential escape attempts.
The security operation focused on one of Manzanillo’s most exclusive residential neighborhoods, where the suspect had been attempting to maintain a low profile to evade justice. However, after establishing a secure perimeter, federal and state agents successfully carried out the arrest without a single shot being fired.
At the time of his capture, various illicit substances were found in Lorenzo’s possession; these were packaged in individual doses and were allegedly intended for distribution.
According to the ongoing criminal investigations, “El Chuky” is identified as one of the primary drivers of violence in the region. He is linked to high-impact crimes, including homicide, kidnapping, extortion, and the control of the narcotics distribution network within the port area.
Following his apprehension, the detainee was transported under strict security protocols to be placed at the disposal of the competent authorities, who will determine his legal status in accordance with the provisions of the National Code of Criminal Procedure.
