Carrying nearly a ton of cocaine, six foreign nationals were detained while transporting the drug aboard a vessel off the coast of Chiapas.

Their arrest was carried out by personnel from the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), in coordination with the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) and the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), following a surveillance operation conducted via the maritime monitoring system.
During the inspection, naval personnel detected a vessel equipped with three outboard motors executing maneuvers inconsistent with standard civilian navigation; consequently, a deployment of surface and air-naval units was ordered to verify the vessel’s status and intercept it on the high seas.

The vessel was subsequently intercepted approximately 65 miles (120 km) northwest of Puerto Chiapas, where six foreign nationals were located, along with 18 bundles weighing approximately 904 kilograms—all containing cocaine.

Authorities reported that the cocaine seizure represents a financial blow to criminal organizations estimated at over 349 million pesos, in addition to preventing thousands of doses of the drug from reaching the streets.
