According to preliminary investigations by the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office, the man allowed his mother to flee the apartment where they lived in Polanco before notifying the police a day later.

For 24 hours, Alejandro forced the baby to nurse from the breast of his dead mother, who had been killed by 12 gunshot wounds. He justified his actions to authorities by claiming that the infant consumed only breast milk.

Carolina Flores, a former beauty queen originally from Baja California, was murdered inside an apartment in Polanco on April 15—allegedly by Erika N., her mother-in-law—for whom an arrest warrant has already been issued, according to the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office (FGJ). The agency opened a case file under the femicide protocol following a report filed on April 16.

The FGJ CDMX has focused its efforts on the search for Erika, whose visit to the capital—made by road just days before the crime—was captured in a recording aired by journalist Carlos Jiménez, in which she appears conversing with Carolina Flores prior to the attack.

The relationship between Carolina Flores and her mother-in-law had deteriorated since the model’s pregnancy. According to Reyna Gómez Molina, the victim’s mother, in an interview with Univision, this family dynamic had become untenable.

Carolina Flores’s mother demanded justice for the murder: “I know she is a fugitive, but we are going to find her, because all of Ensenada is seeking justice for my daughter,” she said in statements reported by Univision. Family members and social media users continue to demand the apprehension of the alleged perpetrator and progress in the investigation being led by the capital’s Attorney General’s Office.
