The Mexican government’s Security Cabinet confirmed that the Navy deployed an operation this Thursday at a residence linked to the Los Mayos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel, in which 11 members of that organization were killed, one more was detained, and initially, a daughter of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada was detained, but was later released as there was no evidence of her involvement in criminal activities nor an arrest warrant against her.
“Upon arriving at the site, naval personnel were attacked, and in accordance with current legal regulations, they repelled the attack. As a result of these events, preliminarily, 11 attackers linked to the same criminal group lost their lives. High-powered weapons and tactical equipment were seized at the scene,” the statement said.
The operation was carried out early Thursday morning in various municipalities of Sinaloa, focusing on the community of El Álamo, in Culiacán, where a large security detail was deployed at a property identified as belonging to Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, keeping the southern part of the Sinaloa capital on high alert.
According to local media, Mónica Zambada Niebla was initially detained during this operation. However, the Cabinet confirmed, without revealing her identity, that a daughter of a criminal leader was detained and later released.
“In an action linked to this operational deployment, an intervention was carried out at a residence connected to a criminal cell of the Los Mayos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel, where a member of this criminal organization was arrested. During this intervention, a woman, identified as the daughter of a criminal leader, was also located. She has no connection to criminal activities nor any outstanding warrants against her, so she was released and handed over to her family in accordance with established protocols and in strict adherence to the law,” he stated.
