The killing or capture of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, “El Mencho,” leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, provoked an immediate reaction from organized crime and placed Puerto Vallarta in a state of emergency.
For hours, the tourist city experienced roadblocks, fires, service disruptions, and mobility restrictions. Local authorities, airlines, and even foreign governments issued alerts due to the escalating violence.
Shootouts, Fires, and Roadblocks in the Tourist City
Following the federal operation in Jalisco, armed groups carried out coordinated attacks in various parts of the state. Reports confirmed burning vehicles, blocked highways, and armed clashes, directly impacting Puerto Vallarta.
Residents reported explosions, loud bangs, and traffic chaos, while authorities urged the population to stay home and suspend business activities to avoid risks.
The blockades were reportedly intended to impede the movement of security forces and generate pressure following the operation against the criminal organization.
Businesses closed and residents under lockdown
The municipal government urged businesses to close temporarily and advised residents to stay home. The lockdown order was extended to various parts of the urban area.
