Following the bloody armed attack in the Isla de Angelópolis area, authorities and family members have confirmed the identities of the three people who lost their lives in front of the “Sala de Despecho” bar. The tragedy has caused profound consternation in Puebla society, especially within the academic community, as it was revealed that the victims were young professionals with no apparent ties to organized crime.
The attack, carried out by individuals on motorcycles on Avenida Osa Mayor, claimed the lives of three people and left five others wounded. According to testimonies and official reports, the deceased are:
Joaquín Wirth García (34 years old): A renowned architect and graduate of UDLAP. His alma mater issued a statement expressing its solidarity with the family and joining the call for justice.
Gisela Ortiz Carreto (33 years old): A graduate of the Psychology program at the Ibero-American University of Puebla. She died inside the white SUV after the attack.
Emmanuel Esteban Campana Sánchez (28 years old): Identified as a gym trainer, who was with Joaquín when they left the establishment.
The testimony of the mother of one of the survivors was shared on social media. She recounted how a group of friends were enjoying the evening when they were startled by shouts of “Everyone on the ground!” According to her account, her son had to crawl to save his life while he watched his university classmate’s SUV being riddled with bullets.
“It turns out they shot at the SUV of one of his classmates… a young man who is an architect, not involved in any criminal activity or anything like that,” the woman said in the recording, emphasizing that the victims were honest and hardworking people.
In addition to the fatalities, authorities identified the five injured individuals who remain under medical observation:
Jennifer (28 years old): Neck wound.
Diego (18 years old): Leg wound.
José Luis (56 years old): Chest and right arm injuries.
Enrique (29 years old): Neck wound.
Jaime Gustavo (55 years old): Various injuries.
The Ministry of Public Security reported that four people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the multiple homicide. The suspects are currently giving their statements to the State Attorney General’s Office to clarify the motive for the crime, which was initially presented as a targeted attack.
The University of the Americas Puebla (UDLAP), IBERO Puebla, and Madero University have expressed their absolute condemnation of the violence plaguing the state. Through official statements, the institutions demanded that the authorities not only clarify the facts and repair the damage, but also provide real guarantees for the right to a safe life in Puebla.
