The city of San Francisco, California, officially declared February 9 as Los Tigres del Norte Day, amidst the anti-immigrant policies promoted by US President Donald Trump.
In establishing the celebration, the mayor’s office highlighted the key role the Mexican group has played as a voice for millions of immigrants, through songs that portray stories of struggle, migration, and hope. At the ceremony presided over by Mayor Daniel Lurie, he donned a traditional Mexican hat to take photos with the group.
For their part, the band thanked the city and their fans on social media, stating that it is “an honor we receive with open hearts. Thank you to the city and our people for always walking with us. We continue singing stories.”
