A federal judge ordered pretrial detention for Mario Lindoro Elenes, alias “El Niño,” and Mario Alberto Lindoro Navidad, alias “El 7,” the father-in-law and brother-in-law, respectively, of Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar, alias “El Chapito,” leader of the Los Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel.

Federal sources reported that a judge declared the arrest, which took place on Monday, legal, and the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) subsequently formally charged them with organized crime, possession of firearms restricted to the armed forces, and drug trafficking.

However, the defense attorneys for El Chapito’s relatives requested an extension of the constitutional deadline, so a decision on whether they will be formally charged will be made in the coming days.

For the time being, they will remain incarcerated at the Puente Grande maximum-security prison in Jalisco.

Both individuals were arrested in Zapopan by agents of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), and the Army after raids on two residences.

According to authorities, the suspects were found in possession of seven bags of drugs, four handguns, ammunition, magazines, two pickup trucks and a luxury vehicle, a motorcycle, cell phones, and cash.
