The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) announced Saturday the extradition to the United States of two men, Faustino ‘N’ and Óscar ‘N’, who will face legal proceedings for separate crimes committed in the neighboring country. The handover took place at Mexico City International Airport (AICM), in compliance with the Extradition Treaty signed between Mexico and the United States.
Faustino ‘N’ was wanted by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California for his alleged involvement in a criminal conspiracy and the sale of counterfeit drugs, specifically substances containing fentanyl. According to the FGR, this individual was arrested last August in the border city of Tijuana, Baja California, after months of investigation into his possible involvement in the importation and sale of controlled substances in the United States.
Fentanyl is a highly potent synthetic opioid that, due to its potency and risk of overdose, has been classified as a public health crisis in the United States. The collaboration between the two countries aims to combat the illegal distribution of this drug and reduce the effects of the overdose crisis. The extradition of Faustino ‘N’ is part of a series of similar extraditions that include leaders of criminal groups involved in drug trafficking and other serious crimes.
