Armando Escárcega, “El Patrón,” Mastermind of Attack Against Ciro Gómez Leyva Sentenced: Prosecutor’s Office Implicates CJNG

Armando Escárcega Valdez, nicknamed “El Patrón,” was sentenced to 14 years in prison for allegedly masterminding the attack against journalist Ciro Gómez Leyva. The Public Prosecutor’s Office also alleged that the attack was ordered by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

“Armando Escárcega Valdez, ‘El Patrón,’ was sentenced a few minutes ago to 14 years in prison for attempted murder against me,” the journalist wrote on social media on December 16.

Specifically, “El Patrón” was found criminally responsible for the crimes of attempted aggravated murder and aggravated criminal association.

Gómez Leyva himself shared on his social media account that with this recent sentence, all seven members of the hit squad have now been convicted.
