As a result of the municipal security strategy based on community policing, crime prevention, and addressing high-impact crimes in Ecatepec, crime rates have decreased by 40 percent in one year, primarily in residential burglaries, vehicle thefts, and extortion. Mayor Azucena Cisneros Coss stated that these security gains will be consolidated by 2026.
Results Report
In a press conference, the mayor emphasized that there are clear and verifiable results in security because her administration implemented a strategy to address the root causes of insecurity, strengthen prevention, and maintain a permanent presence in the area.
“Under this vision, Ecatepec defined a comprehensive strategy aimed at restoring peace, public trust, and order in public spaces,” she emphasized. In less than a year, vehicle theft was reduced by 39 percent, intentional homicide and residential burglary by 36 percent, and extortion reports by 31 percent.
He highlighted a consolidated 40 percent reduction in priority crimes, achieved by addressing the serious insecurity through institutional coordination, reorganization of police sectors, and increased patrols and motorcycles. This improved response times and strengthened ties with citizens.
Strengthening Actions
Meanwhile, in crime prevention, priority was given to addressing family and community issues to reduce risk factors and strengthen the social fabric. High-impact actions involved firm action against criminal organizations, the result of operational intelligence and joint work with the Navy, National Guard, and Attorney General’s Office, under the Unified Command framework, aligned with the federal security strategy.
