Joaquín Guzmán López, son of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, agreed to pay $80 million as part of his plea agreement in a federal court in Chicago, Illinois. This amount is equivalent to the sum his brother Ovidio agreed to pay in his agreement last July, although significantly less than the $15 billion that Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada agreed to pay in August.

The plea agreement document states that Joaquín Guzmán López admitted to Judge Sharon Johnson Coleman his participation in conspiracy to distribute and manufacture controlled substances, a continuing criminal enterprise, narcotics importation, money laundering, and the use of firearms during trafficking operations.

The indictment included coordinating the transport of tons of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and marijuana from South America and Mexico into the United States.

The prosecution described him as the “principal administrator and organizer” of the Sinaloa Cartel, which leads the faction known as Los Chapitos, along with his brothers Iván Archivaldo, Ovidio and Jesús Alfredo Guzmán.
