Former presidential candidate Xóchitl Gálvez criticized Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum after the latter announced she would donate her ticket to the 2026 World Cup opening ceremony to a young girl or teenager who loves soccer.
“Oh, what a nice gesture, but the truth is, both of them could go if she shares her husband’s ticket, since he clearly doesn’t like these kinds of things. Don’t back down, Madam President—are you afraid of being booed?” the former senator said in a video posted on her social media platforms.
Gálvez’s comments come amid preparations for the 2026 World Cup, where Mexico will host the opening match, and at a time of high public exposure for Sheinbaum, who will preside over the event’s opening ceremonies.
